The Carrie W. Kearns Library
(Fourth Floor under High School)
For 26 years (1910 through 1936). Miss Kearns served as Principal at P.S. 47 School for the Deaf. During her reign, she was tireless in her efforts to have the city provide a new school building. She succeeded, and the new school was built in 1925 and 1926.
Miss Kearns recognized at once that the natural strength of the school lay in its vital parent-teacher relationship. She cultivated that bond into a loving union of dedication. She also encouraged the graduates of 1917 to meet and form “47” Alumni Association. From then until now, the strong bond between the alumni association and the school has continued.
