This past school year was an exciting year in sport for “47″ ASL and English High School. We as a school became of member of the Olympic Archery in Schools Program and were one of three high schools in the 5 borough area to competed in Olympic Archery. Two staff members Chris Wierman and Hector Vellejo and one alumni Brenden Gonzalez became Certified Archery Instructors. Our team consisted of 15 students from all four grades both boys and girls who worked really in being student athletes. We finished the season 3-2 and taking second in the New York State Championship with a number of students taking home medals in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. Three highlights of the championship match was Jared Cintron (11th grade) taking 3rd place and Patricia Ponce-Perez (9th grade) taking 7th place out of 30 shooters. In the team 3 person team competition we finished in 1st and 4th.
The goals are set high for the 2015-16 season with the hope and the desire to bring home ‘47’s” first State Championship with many more to come.
